Gotta love the sound of the NAK 300 Shotguns here. Nassau Coliseum is a dump & the acoustics are not that great, but Mandell's capture gets the job done. Its balance is tight & its clarity is strong. It holds its own with Dan Healy's SBD and Hunter Seamons MTX using a fine Oade Bros recording.
It wasn't till a few years later that I realized the significance of these shows, this one in particular. But all the same, I got on.

I was checking out this show because a friend of mine told me it was his first show. I now understand why he has been life long head.
First if all, the sound quality of this recording is amazing. I have listened to every other source on the archive and of the ones that were available at the time of my listening, this pull was by far the best (and that includes the SBDs). Thank you so much taper. I think I may be a huge fan of the Nak shotguns now.
The show itself is a burner. Others complain that Jerry is not in fine voice during this era and they are correct, but compared to what he was sounding like 10 years later, it's not really that bad. His playing is energetic and powerful with some a large swath of brilliance throughout the show. I love how present Brent and Bobby are in the mix as well.
I am glad that I have discovered this show along with a bunch of others from this same run. Makes me wish I was on the bus in 1985 (but I was only 12 then, so maybe not).

What a great show. Keep Your Day Job. Wow! I am always impressed by the dead. They really pulled it off. Though it may take them a minute to get going on a few tracks they are well worth the wait. Good Sound. Stay for the encore.
Thank you Jerry!
